Today (12 Nov 2024), the Excise Department launched "Nong Smith", a Generative AI system that will help answer questions and provide information on excise taxes. "Nong Smith" was developed to facilitate business operators and the public in searching for information on the Excise Tax Act, Citizen's Handbook, and related legal discussions, which are information that is frequently asked about and searched for. The Excise Department is considered the first government agency to use Generative AI to provide services to the public in a tangible way.
